Sourced through our partners, Red Fox, this naturally processed coffee from Burundi pops with juicy orange and yellow fruit - think passionfruit, mango, and pineapple - and is balanced with a brown sugar sweetness. We hope you love it as much as we do!

About the Community

This coffee comes from the Ruvumu community near Kayanza, a hot and dry region in northern Burundi. Reaching the farms requires a drive through the region's rolling hills and dirt roads, with many producers still delivering their coffee to the nearby Umoco washing station by foot, bicycle, or motorcycle.

Coffee is grown between 1,800 and 2,200 meters above sea level in rich red clay soils near Kibira National Forest. Most farmers also grow crops like bananas, maize, cassava, and beans alongside their coffee.

At Umoco—whose name means "light" in Kirundi—the coffee is carefully processed through a natural fermentation and drying program, including several weeks on traditional African raised beds. The combination of high elevation, steady rainfall, and thoughtful processing helps shape the coffee's distinctive character.
