About the Community:
El Mono is a small community tucked into the Rodríguez de Mendoza province, a remote corner of Peru's Amazonas region known for its lush landscapes and rich cultural history. Long before Spanish colonization, the area was home to the Jeberos, Motilones, and Chachapoya peoples, and later served as an important route through the Inca Empire.
The region's capital, San Nicolás, sits at roughly 1,500 meters above sea level and is surrounded by dense greenery, rolling hills, and cool mountain mist. Many coffee farms are still several hours away, reached by winding dirt roads that weave through the countryside.
